     These words are very helpful for those who work in hospitals, clinics… - not only for doctors but also for nurses, administrators and people in general who work in this area.

Blood pressure: pressão arterial

Check-up: exame preventive, “check-up”

Chemist’s (British English): drogaria (que vende apenas remédios)

Disease: doença contagiosa, infecciosa

Doctor’s office (American English), doctor’s surgery (British English): consultório

Drug: remédio, medicamento

Drug company: empresa farmacêutica

Drugstore (American English): drogaria (que vende remédios, revistas, jornais, comida...)

Emergency department (British English), Emergency room (American English): pronto-socorro

House call: visita domiciliar

Illness: doença mais grave

Medicine: remédio

Needle: agulha

Operating room (American English), operating theatre (British English): sala de cirurgia

Patient: paciente

Pharmacy: farmácia

Prescription: receita médica

Pill: pílula

Scans: exames com contraste

Sickness: náusea, doença

Stethoscope: estetoscópio

Surgeon: cirurgião

Syringe: seringa

Temperature: temperatura

Thermometer: termômetro

Treatment: tratamento

X-ray: radiografia, raio X
